Has anyone tried yoga booty ballet the dvd?

I have it, and I enjoy it for the most part.

If you are a beginner, avoid it.

If you know a little bit of yoga, do it! You're going to be sore though. Just a warning.

What is the best Professional Ballet School in Canada????

Canada can boast of two world renown ballet schools that attract students from around the world. They are the National Ballet School of Canada

http://www.nbs-enb.ca/

and the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School

http://www.rwbschool.com/

For discussions of these and other pre-professional ballet programs, check out the "Ballet Talk for Dancers" message board:

Discussion threads devoted exclusively to these programs can be found under the Dance Education section under "Pre-professional Schools/ Residence Programs."

I got a pair of ballet flats from AE. I love them, but they don't cover my toes all the way. Is

I got a pair of natural colored socks for when I wear them with jeans. But if I wear them with leggings, and the bottoms of my toes are showing, is that really tacky?

OMG! i tryed those on! they are sooo cute. I tryed them on in a purpilish color. They have a bow on top. I really wanted them until i tryed them on. I agree. They show your toes too much I thought it was tacky so i didnt get them. Another girl who also tryed them on said they didnt look right too. I would return them and get a diffrent style:)

No...toe cleavage is HOT!!

http://www.whatcelebswear.com/component/...
If your toes weren't yello and full of toe jam, it wouldn't be tacky.
I've had this problem before. While I'm not sure what the standards are, I personally don't like it but I'm sure lots of people have the same problem so it's probably okay.

I usually wear mine with jeans or depending on your style you could put a funky color pair of tights under your leggins..thats what I do sometimes.
If I try on a pair of shoes and have toe cleavage displayed, I won't buy them.
i dont think its tacky. i actually think that kinds of cute. dont worry about it.
i had a pair of heels that did that and i wasn't sure what i thought about it. if it bothers you i wouldn't wair them but i read in vouge that its not tacky, its sexy. you make the call
No way---toe cleavage is cute! UNLESS, you are saying that you are wearing them with socks and the socks show.... then no-way.
a lot of flats have some of your toes showing..i have some from maurices and it shows my toes...dont worry about it...if you like them it doesnt matter it isnt tacky either!

How many is the #of ballet dancer in a group?

It all depends on the size of the budget, which is dependent on the amount of donations a company can bring in, as ticket sales cannot cover the whole budget. Thus, you can have a company of 15 dancers in Grand Rapids, Michigan..

http://www.grballet.com/gr_ballet/AboutU...

and a company of 99 dancers in New York City..

http://www.nycballet.com/company/dancer....

(click on "Dancers by Rank" to see the list).

Saying "as many as the dance needs" puts it backwards, as a company will tailor their repertoire to fit their size. They can also enlist the assistance of student dancers to expand their ranks for shows like "Nutcracker." But those student dancers are not members of the company.

like a company? or a troupe? as many as the dance needs... hope this helps...
It depends I think.
It really depends. There are companies as small as thirteen and as big as more than 100. Generally the more prestigious/famous the group the larger it is though I think .

Tell me interesting things about ballet?

Hmmm ...

There is a "ballet battle" going on right now between a reviewer in Los Angeles and a critic in New York, they're taking pot shots in the newspapers.

In the mid-1800's, Emma Livry refused to have her tutu flame retarded because she didn't like how it changed the material ... she caught on fire during a performance.

The quality of technique in ballet has steadily risen in the last 50 years ... and sadly, audiences continue to applaud atheleticism rather than artistry.

The Nutcracker is by far the most popular ballet and the annual christmas show is such a source of income that dance schools rely on it to keep their schools open.

Ballet is a LOT more fun to watch from the wings!

Jean Rosentthal added side lights all the way upstage instead of just the first wing for ABT and Balanchine flipped out on her. ... and then later apologied, it's the standard today.

If I were an aggressive person, I'd make "three minute ballets" for the camera and sell them to cable tv. We need to re-think how we reach our audiences with our art forms.

Dances should never be called 'routines' or 'numbers' .. they should be called 'pieces' like an art piece.

One says "merde" (which is sh*t in french) to a dancer for good luck .. not 'break a leg'!

Merde!

Do you know about Isadora Duncan? I think she is pretty interesting, she was a ballet dancer.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isadora_Dun...

read how she died too, very unusual death
The forms and positions of ballet were originally based on equestrian riding techniques. Those movements were later refined to express the illusion that the dancer was virtually unaffected by gravity...IE: the dancer on point...and all lines made by the body to be smooth and unbroken giving the feeling the the movement extends far beyond the physical limits of the body. When the 'broken lines' of modern dance were first brought into the dance world, the audiences were enraged and sometimes even rioted because the new form of dance was something they could no longer 'judge'.
It;s beautiful and fun to do. I love it with all my heart.
It's beautiful and elegant and great for your body. It kills your feet but it's worth it. Mikhail Baryshnikov was a fabulous dancer AMAZING and he is still alive much to old to dance though. check the link out the guy is pretty interesting!
out of all types of dance ballet takes the most flexiablity, strength, and effort, but out of all the dances is supposed to look the most effortless. o yea and it kills like heck, especially pointe. beauty is pain. :)
Isadora Duncan was most definitely NOT a ballet dancer, but the founder of modern dance. And I loved everything wrathofkublakhan wrote, but especially this:

%26lt;%26lt;If I were an aggressive person, I'd make "three minute ballets" for the camera and sell them to cable tv. We need to re-think how we reach our audiences with our art forms.%26gt;%26gt;

I'd say that ballet is the most difficult art form to master, yet the most unappreciated and misunderstood.
Very graceful, I LOVE IT

I'm goin 2 start ballet in april. wat r da stretches i shud do? n wat shud my diet be?oper

You can definetly stretch now, and it will help you. Dance is about stretch, strenght and flexibility. Sit in a straddle position for 30 seconds. Relax. Do not force the stretch. Now, stay in the straddle and let the weight of your head lower toward the ground. Do not force this. Stay in this position for at least 30 seconds. Exhale and drop your head a little lower. Relax in this position for 30 seconds. Now drop your head over one leg and do a progression of stretching over it. Stay at least 30 seconds in every position. Now drop your head over the other leg. Relax and feel the weight of your head dropping lower. Standing up take your heel of your foot and let it touch your buttocks. Do this with the other leg. All stretches need to be at least 30 seconds. You can stretch all parts of your body[neck, arms, shoulders etc.] Do not expect quick results. It will take you about 6 months of relaxing stretches to get to your full range. Start now and keep it up once you begin classes. Before you begin your stretching regime for the day jog in place for about 10 minuetes. Getting your blood flowing first will help loosen you up. Ballet dancers work to make lines and shapes with their bodies. It is important to be in excellent physical condition. You should not eat junk foods and high fatty foods. Yogurt, vegetables, fruit, cicken, fish, or soy products, and small amounts of bread or grain are good. Ballet is about getting into the air. You need to stay thin, but very healthy and strong, too. Forget sodas and fast food. Also avoid fried foods. It sounds impossible, but it isn't. It's so much fun. Good luck with your classes!

I'm goin 2 start ballet in april. wat r da stretches i shud do? n wat shud my diet be?hollywood theater opera theater

to be honest, diet wont really matter, i mean you will need more energy than before so just keep to a healthy diet and include abit more carbs than usual but dont go mad with them lol. As for the stretches just plies in first and second and rises onto the balls of the feet. If you want to increase the flixibility of your legs before you start, do simple stretches and leg extensions but i dont think you will need to do much before hand. All of the barre work is the stretches you need to warm up and to increase flexibility. Hope this helped

yes, you can wear it with knee high socks but make sure it fits your whole outfit
yeah there are some kind of socks like that. I have some that only cover the toes, and I normally see them at Target or Walmart and other stores like that.
You can wear any socks with them as long a they don't make your feet feel tight and uncomfortable.I recommend you use socks for flats.I always use them for my dance class.Try payless or target, they sell them their.

all i can say is to tape your toes and feet where you know you usually get blisters and find a toe pad that works for you. no matter what you do, you're still gonna get some blisters. as for vains, there's nothing you can do about that. you can ice them but that will only help for a few minutes. ugly feet is just something that comes with dancing. no dancer has pretty feet.

Wear socks. That way you don't see your feet. And if that's the biggest problem you have, be thankful.
moisturize

when using pointe shoes use baby powder to stop blisters.

sea salt is really reall great
dancers feet look like this hon. If you want pretty feet, you have to stop dancing.
Goes with the territory,Cookie, especially in the beginning then it goes downhill from there. Did no on e give you advance warning that open toed shoes would be a thing of the past?
Don't let your disgusting feet kill your interest, you may apply powder to keep your feet dry.

I love ballet, i wish I could do it. You are lucky
if you dance pointe ur feet will most likely keep looking that way til u get used to the shoes and the fact that ur feet will probably keep gettin worse til u GET USED TO IT!!!!!!! thast wat happened to me and it didnt stop lookin gross til about half a year. i suggest u wash ur feetevery night or wenever u take a shower. thats bout all i got
I'm just going to be honest... now that your en point your feet will never be the same our feet were not made to stand the X amount of pounds and pressure we put on them but after a long day of rehearsals i sleep with cabbage in my socks to lessen the swelling and the pain it works for me it may work for you

It's highly unlikely that you'll find anything 'new' and yet 'classical'. Simply because classical was composers such as Beethoven, Hayden, Vivaldi, Bach. But I do have some great 'classical' suggestions:

Clair de lune

Valse op.64-1 "Petit chien"

Piano Sonate op.27-2 "Mondschein" 1st mov. "Moonlight Sonate"

by: Beethoven.

~or, if you want something that doesn't last too long, I'd suggest this, although it is in walking, or dancing speed.~

it's not always easy to find suitable piano music but if you can get someone to tape The Waltz of the Flowers from the Nutcracker on Piano for you then I'd strongly recommend that because it's gorgeous and it's pretty easy to dance to, it has a 3/4 rhythm and therefore is easy to choreograph
Requiem Beethoven's fifth by Tran Siberian orchestra its non traditional to me anyways
Moonlight Sonata..

i had to do a solo to this and believe me.. once you get on the dance floor and find the right beats you can hit so many accents and it can turn out amazingly good.
Christofori's Dream.

Amazing song. It's in iTunes if you want to listen to it. Its newer, meaning it wasn't written is the 1800's.

take a pic of your ballet shoes or bring them into the artist if you have a pair. The art will be fantastic if they can draw their inspiration from the real thing!

I have a tattoo of my daughter's name on my ring finger and the artist did a fantastic job by just meeting her and my husband has 20 tattoo's, the best one is a biker link chain around his arm, he just road his motorcycle in and the artist just drew the pic up from the real thing. It's gorgeous.
the best thing to do would be to go to the tattoo artist and look through their design books. It's possible they've done that design before.
the best thing that you could do would be to find a picture or tell the artist your vision and let them create a custom one for you...
Have you thought of ballet catalogs or sites. Don't think tattoo, just think ballet slippers. Google ballet slippers or pointe.
take a picture of the actual slippers or try deviantart.com
you don't have to have a picture of a tattoo of ballet slippers. just take a picture of actual slippers or bring a pair if you have them.
let the artist know what you want, then, let him/her come up with something. most tattooists are pretty damn good artists, as well asgood at pushing ink.

What kind of music does ballet use for their performance?

Classical ballet uses classical music, such as Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker music. Contemporary ballet can use anything, from modern music (ranging from Stravinsky who composed in the early 20th century to minimalist Philip Glass), jazz %26amp; pop (such as Twyla Tharp's works set to pieces by Gershwin and Billy Joel) and even heavy metal (check out the Ballet Deviare company: http://www.balletdeviare.org/ ).

Everyone here should get out and see what's happening in contemporary ballet these days to educate yourself more.

How do you tie a ballet bun?

First you put it in a low ponytail, then you take another ponytail holder and put it in a messy bun. Take a hair net, like the $1.00 one you can buy from CVS, and put it on wrapping it around the bun as tight as you can. Secure it with bobby pins, as well as any other loose hairs that you have. Take a lot of hait spray, and spray all over, and around the bun, Using a bit of gel would not hurt either!

Is it hard to dance (ballet & jazz) when you have your period ?

And can you get it if you are underweight (I hope not) ?

What are some things I can do to put it off (I am 12 and don't have it yet, but REALLY don't want it) ?

Is it hard to dance (ballet %26amp; jazz) when you have your period ?say yes

Well i do ballet jazz and hip hop yes it is annoying dancing with it but that is onley if you are wearing a pad and dont be afraid it is going to happen to you usually a year after the age your mum got hers. So it isnt scary i promise you, when i was 12 i was terified of it.

Is it hard to dance (ballet %26amp; jazz) when you have your period ?palace theatre opera theater

dont worry i thought it was gonna be so bad but it wasnt ive had it about a year now and its like a scheduled thing that i dont even think about it wont effect dancing unless you have really bad cramps but you can take medicine for that. And your period could come in up tp 5 years so dont worry
No, it's not harder. I've been a dancer for over 20 years now, so take it from me.

You can get your period even if you're underweight. There's nothing you can do to delay your period that is healthy. Just let nature take it's course!
Your period is just something natural that happens, you can't put it off or do anything to make it go away. It will come soon enough! I'm sure you'll be fine.. you can still do everything you normally would do after you get your period.

The Ballad Of Peter Pumpkinhead

by XTC

Peter Pumpkinhead came to town

Spreading wisdom and cash around

Fed the starving and housed the poor

Showed the vatican what gold's for

But he made too many enemies

Of the people who would keep us on our knees

Hooray for Peter Pumpkin

Who'll pray for Peter Pumpkinhead?

Oh my!

Peter Pumpkinhead pulled them all

Emptied churches and shopping malls

Where he spoke, it would raise the roof

Peter Pumpkinhead told the truth

But he made too many enemies...

Peter Pumpkinhead put to shame

Governments who would slur his name

Plots and sex scandals failed outright

Peter merely said

Any kind of love is alright

But he made too many enemies...

Peter Pumpkinhead was too good

Had him nailed to a chunk of wood

He died grinning on live TV

Hanging there he looked a lot like you

And an awful lot like me!

But he made too many enemies...

Hooray for Peter Pumpkin

Who'll pray for Peter Pumpkin

Hooray for Peter Pumpkinhead

Oh my oh my oh!

Doesn't it make you want to cry oh?

How do ribbons go on ballet pointe shoes?

I've just received my new pair. I know you're supposed to sew it on - is it one ribbon for one shoe, sewn on both sides? But then how do you get it around your foot when putting on the shoe?

How do ribbons go on ballet pointe shoes?sheet music

Here are a couple of sites with help for you:

http://www.pointemagazine.com/backissues...

http://www.dancexpressions.com/sewing.ht...

http://www.ballet-feetfirst.com/

BUT, you should have been given detailed instruction by your pointe teacher or by the sales person who fitted you. Please ask your teacher to help you or your shoes will not fit properly!!

How do ribbons go on ballet pointe shoes?state theatre opera theater

2 ribbons sewn on both sides of each slipper. At the top of the seam where your arch is.
You can do this a couple of ways. First, fold the back of your pointe shoe down against the insole. The outside edge of the back will make a diagonal line against the inside of the shoe - place your ribbons along that line (one on each side). Also, you might want to melt the edges of the ribbons using a candle flame so that they don't fray - this is easier than trying to hem them. You only need to hold the ribbon near the flame for a few seconds. I used to sew my elastic in the same spot as my ribbons (on top of the ribbons so the elastic is closer to my foot) but some people like to sew their elastics in a loop from the back of the shoe. Ask your teacher how they want the elastic done - it looks different and also feels different depending on how you attach it.

When you put them on, don't tie the ribbons too tight, or when you stand up you will hurt your achilles tendon. As you practice, you'll get the hang of it.

good luck!
do a search on this topic i've explained this at least 3 times
you can't really explain over internet. you should ask your ballet teacher. sewing them on right is very important!! don't forget to burn the edges of the ribbon before sewing them on, they might fray.

I'm doing a Jazz/Ballet/Lyrical Combo dance class?

What kind of shoes should I wear? I have Jazz shoes. Does anyone take this class what kind of shoes do you wear?

I'm doing a Jazz/Ballet/Lyrical Combo dance class?headache

i'd double check with the teacher, but she will probably suggest a jazz shoe or a pedini. shoes for any of the individual styles of dance would be fine, your teacher may just have a preference. if given the choice, i would go with half soles, usually used for lyrical and acro. yes, they do stretch with your feet ive had the same two pairs since i was 13, im 25 now, and i still dance at least three days a week. however, if your studio has a wood floor, you may want something covering your toes if there's going to be barre work.

I'm doing a Jazz/Ballet/Lyrical Combo dance class?paramount theater opera theater

Jazz shoes are fine. I take that class.
You might want to get ballet shoes too. Ask your teacher.
you will need ballet and lyrical shoes.
because Lyrical is so versitille, you'll have to ask your teacher which shoe they prefere you to wear.

jazz shoes are good, because you can do ballet and jazz in them comfortably.

however if your class is leaning more onthe jazz side, it might be hard to do it in ballet shoes.

theres also a "lyrical" shoe..it has no sole and only covers the ball of the foot, but its like a sandal,

i really wouldnt suggest that shoe, because if you grow, they dont stretch with you, so you'd have to get new ones, and the traction on the bottom wears off to fast when you're dancing on a proper wood floor..

hope that helped.

What is the point of ballet?

to make you skinny? better posture?

What is the point of ballet?performing arts center

It's a form of dance, people like to watch it etc.

What is the point of ballet?sunshine opera theater

it increases ur strength and flexibility
Its supposed to give you grace of movement. But I knew an older ballet dancer and her feet hurt a lot. Those toe shoes are the pits!
It is to entertain. It can also showcase grace, elegance, and hard work.
not to make u skinny u can't get skinny doing ballet u don't have to b skinny to do ballet its to have better pasture and t make u more flexible it helps u extend your leg up high to the piont it can reach up to your face u can bend and srecght in plaves u wouldn't even know
Increases flexibility. Creates better posture. A good foundation of dance (makes other forms of dancing easier).
better posture and stronger legs and arms

and performing (people that like to perform)
It's a lot of fun while entertainmening others, it improves strength and flexibility and in my opionion it is beautiful. What is the point of doing any other art form or sport besides it being enjoyable?
Well, ballet is a form of art in that it tells a story and conveys emotions. The study of ballet not only teaches physical strength and flexibility but also lyricism and discipline. It instills an in depth understanding of music as well though most dancers are very musical to start with. Ballet training takes many long, dedicated years and in my own experience the pain, broken-off toenails, bunions, etc. was never a factor to stop dancing. My passion for ballet far outweighed any physical discomforts and there were ALOT. Happy Holidays!!
Well ballet is a form of excercise and it does produce great posture. Aside from that, it is an art form that is beautiful to watch and for dancers it is a foundation that will build technique for dancers until they go into other forms of dance.
the 'pointe' *hehe* of ballet is expression. i'm 13 and i've been in ballet training sense i was 5 and i've come across that qustions time to time. it all boils down to the art and the expression of your inner soul.

you don't have to be skinny to do ballet (you do to be en pointe but that's another thing) but it is better if your not over weight and for posture...well...it does take good posture but there are other ways to work on better posture.
It gives me something to get better at something to improve at something to work for. Its bcaz its satisfies my heart. Its what I love. Its what makes me me. I dont do it to get skinny. And yes it does give you good posture but its also a challenge. I hope i helped. happy holidays
to express ur feelings with the music by dancing and have discipline at the same time
ballet does give u better pressure but u don't take it 2 make u skinny, thats just what happens when u practice and r in front of dance mirror everyday! ballet is a sport, so u could say "what is the point of playing (any sport)?" i mean there isn't a specific "point" to its for some people its a hobby, a passion, a carrer, or just something to do in their spare time. ballet gives you self-dicipline and strength. it builds character on you, and in my opinion is one of the, if not the most, wonderful dance forms ever perfomed and created
It's for the people who actually respect it and love to do it, like me. It's not to make you skinny, better posture, or make you a better person, its for the art and passion of the dancer.
to the people who watch, it is a form of art through dancing..and for those who perform, its more than that and also involves the fitness part of performing difficult movements. people also enjoy the famous costumes that they were and see it as entertainment.
The point of ballet? Ballet is for people who enjoy it and love to learn it. Maybe the point of ballet for you is you love to dance. Other people may watch for entertainment.
Ballet is the basic foundation of all dance.

It teaches grace, posture, flexibility, extension, projection, performance, emotion, expression, etc. It's great training for any future involvement in dance.
There are many points of ballet it depends what you want the point to be. I do ballet because its fun and i want to become a prima ballerina. but others do ballet for posture, flexibility, or i guess you could say to make you skinny. many young children also do it because its just something that young girls do. but i think the main point of ballet same as any style of dance is to have fun and enjoy doing it and to enjoy others with your movement. with ballet your movements of grace and amazing turns and how high you lift your leg.
to dance gracefully and entertain people
I am a dancer and I think of it as a way to express your motion and feeling......It does sometimes get you skinny but thats not the point....it does give you good posture.....you get very flexible....you can understand your body better.....gives you confidence....It's a good way to socialize and you can also learn alot of good information about people and life lessons...its nice to watch.....its nice to show your stuff on stage.....so many reasons.....
umm maybe cause they like the classic feeling of dance or to feel sufisticated or they just like working hard
It's a type of dance. Asking what the point of ballet is, is like asking what the point of ballroom dancing, or hip-hop dancing is... it's just another form of dance. There are those who enjoy it, and those who don't... just like with anything else.

There doesn't have to be a point.

How do you make a ballet tutu?

I really want to learn instead of buying ane because i can't find one that i REALLY like and that is in my price range. please help!

How do you make a ballet tutu?greek theater

I prefer making your own costumes to buying. It is a little intimidating when you aren't experienced, but it is actually simple and fun. I've never taken too long just to make the skirt, it should only be within hours.

You'll need several kinds of scissors depending on how you are designing your skirt. Regular scissors, fabric scissors, seam rippers, and if you want it (I always use it) embroidery scissors. The more expensive the thread are, generally the better to work with. You'll also need an endless supply of pins and needles. Ask a person working in the store to help you find more things you will need. You'll need more or less depending on if you use a machine or it is all by hand.

Parts of the body you need to measure before you start any sewing and cutting are the waist, lower and upper hip and thigh and your stride.

This website really helped me a couple years ago when I made my first tutu. It has very in depth instructions and precise details on cuts and trims.

If you have tights for ballet, can you also use it for ice skating???

*optional question* if you are into ice skating lessons, what level are you in and how many months did it take you to reach that level??

If you have tights for ballet, can you also use it for ice skating???home theatre

Ballet tights would be freezing!! Skate tights are thicker, warmer, and more durable than ballet tights. I've used dance tights underneath my skate tights for extra warmth on the ice, as I thought two skating tights were too thick and constraining for me - but never dance tights alone.

On the flip side, I have used skate tights in ballet on those real cold days! :)

*Optional answer* I'm in Adult Gold level, but haven't skated in nearly 4 years now!!

If you have tights for ballet, can you also use it for ice skating???ballet theater opera theater

yes of course you can there arn't any rules about these things
There aren't rules againts ballet tights, but it makes you look less professional. Plus, the ballet tights won't hold up on the ice for long. The ballet tights are also way thinner, so your legs will be much colder. I really would suggest just getting some skate tights now because you will eventually have to get skate tights when you get up into competitions. Also, the skate tights always fit better than ballet tights. I know because I used to do ballet.

Good Luck In All!
Only as an underlayer. Some of the dance tights are a little silkier than skating tights. But they're cold!

I'm languishing around FS 1 and it took, I don't know, maybe a year? I'm not exactly setting the skating world on fire; I just skate for fun.
Sure, Why not.
Of course you can use the same tights. I passed my senior moves, intermediate freestyle, and pre-gold dance. It took me ten years, but I haven't always been doing tests.
You can, but they will not keep you very warm and will tear easily if you fall and end up sliding on the ice. I've been dancing for 10 years so I have lots of pink ballet tights and I also have a pair of skating tights because I was curious what the difference was between the two types of tights. I like my ballet ones a lot more, they are softer and fit better in my opinion, but maybe that's just because I am used to them. Anyway I have found that if I wear my ballet tights under a pair of jazz pants it works well for skating and so does a skirt/dress with the skating tights. Hopes this helps!

Optional: I'm currently just a recreational skater, but I've learned a few things from my friend who is a figure skater. I'm going to take lessons this summer though!

Nope. You have to take actual classes. Ballet is a lot harder and more intricate and precise than most people realize. You HAVE to have a teacher there giving you steps and corrections and making sure you don't injure yourself.
sorry, its just not possible. you HAVE to take classes

Yes, you have a very nice body for dancing. Good luck!

No one can really be too fat to do ballet, and you are quite thin so I can't see why you would even be considering this. Plus if you are passionate about dancing size/weight even looks shouldn't matter.
you're fine.
You are a bit fat. If you hadn't worn your black skirt I would tell you actually you are fat or thin for ballet.
you're fine.

one of the best ballet dancers I know who is my age(15) weighs a lot more than you do and she's still a beaufitul dancer. weight really doesn't have much to do with it its just technique that people look for

Any tips on pirouettes in ballet??PLEASE ANSWER!!!?

I can't do them, well i can only go round once. I'm not on pointe yet either so any tips on how to do a normall pirouettes???

Any tips on pirouettes in ballet??PLEASE ANSWER!!!?opera ticket

Absolutely, great question.

There are a couple of things you can do to improve your pirouettes en flat.

1. Pull up. However clich茅d and over used it is, it really is true -- instead of thinking of getting around, instead think of just bringing your foot up to poss茅 and pulling up into the turn. It really is amazing how much further around simply adjusting your posture can get you.

2. Use your core muscles. Especially your abs. In synch with Newton's third law, the opposite reaction of your spinning comes from strength in your stomach muscles. Without your abs, you will not be able to successfully nail doubles, let alone multiples.

3. Take appropriately placed breaths. Taking a swift but not sharp intake of breath at the moment you begin to turn will help you pull up and engage your alignment and core muscles. Also, a sharp and swift intake of breath just as you feel you are about to land or fall will keep you up for another vital few seconds.

4. Commit to your turn. If you decide you're doing a double, don't in the middle of the turn decide you can't make it, because this will cause you to fall and injure yourself, or at least put your heel down and continue turning. Instead, stay determined on relev茅 until you know you are going to hit the ground. Your turns will be much more successful this way.

5. Believe in your ability. This one, too, is a clich茅 that proves true. If you believe that you are an amazing dancer and that a pirouette is just about the easiest thing in the entire world, you will spin easier, i guarantee. Keep in mind that your brain is a very powerful thing and can physically impede you if it chooses. However, also keep in mind that you are in control of your brain, so logically, you can choose if you are impeding yourself or letting yourself turn. This applies in mostly ever step in ballet there is.

6. Sink into your pli茅. Really melt into the position, so that when you snap your leg up, you have some substantial position you're coming from. Take your time with pli茅s when you're practicing. However, when you're in a piece of choreography or doing a show, I really recommend less time in the pli茅. The reason people are so engrossed by ballet is because they think that they can't do it themselves. However, if you show every preparation and every single step that doesn't flow into the next, it becomes less believable and more possible in the eyes of the audience, if that makes any sense.

Good luck, hope I helped! ?

Well, first I will tell you of course tighten your stomach muscles. Also, make sure your knee is really up cuz it will help you stay up adn tighten whether you realize it or not. Also, in your head count every time you head spins around. Finally, just try adn focus on everything including your arms. A lot of it is just practice but just keep trying and whip your head around cuz it will keep you up! :)
right instead of focasing on going round focas on going on the highest demi-pointe as possible ans then whip your head round to a spot you focas on a wall or mirror hope this helps if not check out

http://www.artofballet.com/exer2.html
omg! i had problems with them for sooo long (and still do a little) but i improved a lot recently after finally learning the secret to them from another dance teacher! you have to tighten your muscles in your legs, back, and especially your abs. pull up with your diapraghm muscle (just below your lungs) and it helps tons! and if you lean back a lot, try to push your shoulders down and slightly forward. also, dont lift your chin, but "pull up" like a string is pulling you from the top of your head. after trying this, keep practicing your balance. after doing this for a while, you should improve! it helped me so much and i hope it helps!
tighten your stomach muscles. if you feel like your about to fall, pull up, pull up, pull up. as dancer, im not that great at turning. im able to go around 3 now but it took me FOREVER
when you are preparring plie alot, practice your balance to hold your self up squeeze your abs! and just practice!
You really need to work on strengthening your back muscles. Your back is what holds you up. Make sure it is straight and you are not leaning one way or another. A second major part is your spotting. You have to keep your eyes focused on one spot and whip your head around. If you have trouble with that, try doing shenne (shen-ay) or -however it's spelled- turns. Lastly, make sure your leg is in passe. Once you have those three things down, you'll do great and probably get to 3 piroettes!!!
what i do is, when im trying to get two rotations, i tell my self that i am only doing one, and then i just make myself to two once the first rotation is through. if i tell my self that im only doing one, then my turn is well balance because i know that i can do a single turn. I guess I kind of trick my mind, and it ends up helping.
Sure, I have a few tips:

1. USE YOUR PLIE!!!! Seriously, without it you'll get nowhere whatsoever!!!

2. USE ALL YOUR MUSCLES!!! Use your stomach muscles and pull up, use your arm muscles to hold them out strong and don't let your elbows droop and tuck in your thumbs(as I like to say, blow out the candles lol). Also use your butt muscles to squeeze in yes I know it sounds gross but that's what you have to do... also inner %26amp; outer thighs to turn out...

some things to do to make your stomach %26amp; arm muscles stronger are push ups and sit ups/crunches. Leg muscles, like your turn out and stuff I would just say turn out at the bar but don't force your turn out.

3. Point your foot when your foot is in retirae[sp] position... make sure it is the right retirae position, like by your knee not like lower then your knee.

4. SPOT! Also make sure you spot the front, not like the side or something else... or if possible the floor...not sure if it is or not though lol

5. Put your hair up, it will help because when your hair gets in your face it is just annoying lol.

6. Also, don't "wind up" before you turn... meaning don't swing like to the left in your preperation. Just stay put and go in a deep plie, then turn. In other words don't lean to the opposite direction I guess you could say also.

Hope these tips help! They are coming from a ballet dancer herself!

haha that would be me!!!! lol

Does getting accepted into a ballet company include the kind of padding you wear for your pointe sho

I have been wondering about that question for a while. For example you wear gel pads, would you still be accepted into a professional school/company regardless of the padding you use or even pointe shoe brand?

Does getting accepted into a ballet company include the kind of padding you wear for your pointe shoes?home theater system

If you are a strong enough dancer, it does not matter what brand of shoe you wear or kind of padding you use. My only comment would be if you feel the need for gel pads, are you sure you feet are strong enough and your skin tough enough; to dance on pointe all day long like most female professional dancers do? Most professional dancers only use a strip of paper-towel or nothing at all. If they are nursing a blister or other injury, they might use just a tiny bit of lambswool.

The only concern regarding brand would be that true professional companies will buy/provide you with a certain amount of pointe shoes. And they usually have purchasing arrangements with the major shoe companies. By the time most female dancers get to a pro company, they even have a specific maker that they have their shoes made by so the company will order batches of shoe in your exact size, shank length and made by your maker.

Very unlikely, even as an amateur. To be a good ballerina takes more training and concentration than Diana would have liked.
All I know is that she did not put out with her father in law Prince Phillip. Because of not having sex with her father in law, Prince Phillip had Princess Di killed.
Yes, the song she performed to was Billy Joel's Uptown Girl. She perfomed the jazz routine with Wayne Sleep,an ex-Royal Ballet dancer, at a charity benefit at Covent Garden, and drew criticism from Charles and the Palace. He thought she was making a spectacle of herself. But Diana was very satisfied with her dancing.
She was not a bad dancer, she danced good with John Travolta.

How should i wash my ballet tights?

I was gonna put them in the washer but i'm afriad it will rip.So what is the right way?

How should i wash my ballet tights?sunshine

Hand wash them with cold water in the sink with a light detergent. Good thing you didn't put them in the washer, they would have been destroyed.

How should i wash my ballet tights?star theater opera theater

cold water in the sink and hang dry.
It depends on how long you want them to last and what you can be bothered doing lol. I personally just chuck them in the wash with all of my other clothes because I have special tights just for performances. They don't rip in the wash.

But if you would like to take care of them a bit more then follow what other users have said :)

Hope this helps ;]
I throw mine in the wash with my regular stuff, but I used to hand-wash my tights. These haven't ripped or had runs any more often than the ones I hand-washed.
I always wash them with Woolite on a gentle cycle and with warm, not hot, water. The hot temperature seems to be more destructive than rough physical treatment. Don't mix colors. They absorb their neighbors' tints.
It depends on what type the tights are but i wash mine by putting the tights in a washing net and throwing it into the washer!
ive got a couple pairs of tights- some for practice and some for performance.

My studio requires that we have a certain [nasty] kind of Danskin tights for performances that dont do well in the washer. I quickly handwash them and hang them dry.

For my microfiber and bodwrappers, capezio, etc, I just stick em in the washer with my other clothes. But i still hang them dry. The only problem is fading, thats why they are just my practice tights, though.

That seems to work for me! Most of my tights last over a year.:)
Im a dancer and a really simple way to do it (and not ruin your tights) is to buy one of those washing machine bags (you can buy them in most shops that sell bras) and put your tights in one of them with the rest of your stuff when you put it in the washing machine.

easy!
Just throw them in the washer, dance tights last forever. You may want to hang them to dry though
i put mine in the washing and drying machine???

a lot of people have said that by 15 you can no longer become any more flexible that you already are. but one of my camp counselors was talking about a girl who started dancing around your age. She said that she was never too flexible. BUT... within a year she DID become much more flexible. so..there's hope. good luck!!!!

What are the top 5 ballet schools in the United States?

I know that ABT and SAB and PNB are in the rankings but I don't know the order. Does anybody know what the top 5 or 10 schools are?? I would like a reliable source too if given.

idk about the top 5...but i know that SAB, ABT, PNB, San Francisco, Boston, houston, Joffrey, and Kirov are some of the best

i think it all depends on the person. certain types of training might not be the best for some people.

Julliard is 1 of them
are you looking for schools that feed into companies (ex. abt) Julliard doesn't do that.
Joffrey (New York and Chicago) Orlando Ballet, Miami Ballet, Atlanta Ballet, Houston Ballet, Rock School of Dance in Philadephia, Nutmeg Conservatory (?) in Connecticut - several others....as to rank, well, that is subject to debate for the experts....

How do I know which ballet school is a good one?

List some examples please like if they have a pianist or if they allow skirts. I would like some answers from people who teach or dance.

junior now and i've passed intermediate foundations. (17yearsold)
I am in Junior 5 and I am 14, but my teacher is moving me up to pointe 1. if grade is the same thing as junior, u are good.
Well do you mean grade in Ballet? Well if thats your question then I would say, I am 15 and in Ballet Company. I started Ballet in 8th grade. There is only 3 levels of Ballet in my studio. Ballet 1, Ballet 2, and Ballet 3. If you have been in Ballet 2 for 2 years you can audition for Ballet Company.
We do not have grades we have levels. The highest level we have at our academy is level 4. Which is very intense. (the levels and there difficulty all vary in different academies)

I'm in level 4 ballet and level 3B pointe. (which is basically training for level 4 pointe classes)

And im 13
im in advanced/profesional we dont have grades. but im in the 8th grade if you ment school grades

Mom is making me do ballet but I don't want to. If I tell her I don't want to she will get

My first day is today July 10th.

Mom is making me do ballet but I don't want to. If I tell her I don't want to she will get really upset. Whatoper

Sit down and talk to her, be ready to compromise. Ask her why she wants you to dance. If it is for fitness, offer to do a different physical activity, such as swimming, skating, or marshal arts, what ever interests you the most. If it is because she thinks you would really like it, say you would be willing to try it for a month and then if you really don't like it then maybe you can try something else. If it is because she wants you to be a world famous ballerina, tell her what you want to be and ask for her help in achieving it. I think your mom would be more upset in the long run knowing you are unhappy doing it, than she would be hearing you want to do something else. Just be mature, not accusing. Start off with something like "Mom, I know you really want me in ballet, but I'm not really interested in dancing. Are you wanting me in it for the exercise? Could I do (something else physical) instead?"

She is going to be much more likely to let you do something else than to let you do nothing, so figure out what you would like to do and ask. If she is wanting you to do something just so you don't have a lot of time to do nothing ask about an art, writing, or photography class, or music lessons. Whatever interests you.

u just ahve to tell her in the nicest possible way and say it aint right for you

gd luck
i think you should tell her the truth in a nice way not like "mom i hate ballet!!" but ask her is u could do different lessons that you like and that she would approve not make her make you take another lesson you dont like or then u just did it all over again.

Best of Luck,

xoxo Zoe
Tell her anyway, but don't do it in an angry or upset way. Rather be friendly and sincere.

Why does your mom want you to do ballet? Maybe she just wants you to have a good hobby. Then you might have a suggestion on your own?

An other thought is to take the first class and give it a sincere try. Then you could say your mom that you have tried and that you really know now you don't like it. This you can't do, if your mom will have to pay for the whole semester before first class, obviously.

My sister used to play violin and had some talent, but because our mom was too ambitious about her she forced her to practice even when she did not want to. She hated it, and quit soon. Forcing your children do things will not get things further.
tell her the truth once and tolerate the disadvantages just once, instead ofbothering yourself for a long long period.

anyway she should and will understand that you are not obliged to like anything she likes

trust her and waste time on this attitude
Why not try a few classes and see how it goes? Thinking about a thing, and actually doing it, are worlds apart. Whatever it is you're dreading may turn out to be a big nothing.

Could you make a compromise with your mother, maybe by taking a different type of dance class (jazz, modern, tap), or taking music lessons? What do *you* want to do?

If you're open to changing your mind about ballet, watch the movie, 'The Turning Point' with Mikhail Baryshnikov, Anne Bancroft, and Shirley MacLaine, even if you watch just the last 20 or 25 minutes.
my mom made my sister take ballet when we were younger cause I wanted to dance and she didin't want to drop me off and leave me by myself, she kicked and screamed at first, now almost 20 years later........ she's grown and now pays for her own lessons! She's now a teacher of ballet too! Don't worry give it some time, you just may like it. And in the end if you do not at least you got a chance to experience something new
I love ballet and I think that it's a great foundation to any other dance form you want to take. At the same time, if you hate it then you won't gain anything from it.

If she's forcing you to take it there is probably some underlying reason. Either she wanted to be a ballerina or wants you to do some hobby if you don't already have one.

Ask her why she wants you to dance. If it's a good reason maybe you should try it out. I think ballet is great and if you get good you may like it a little more.

Good Luck
skip.
How about you stand up for yourself and stop doing what you mother makes you, unless its important. But if ballet makes you upset, there needs to be an end to that. Just skip it every time you have it it you must go there.

How do u feel about ballet flats????

do u think there out of style? last month? totally cute? the number one thing in ur closet?

th8nks 4 answering this, im bored and asking random questions

How do u feel about ballet flats????theatre

They look great and add a touch of class to any outfit. My sister says they are a great option to wearing heels. At the end of the day your feet and ankles don't hurt. An if you participate in sports that's a plus too. I don't think flats will ever go out of style. They look great and keep your feet and ankles from hurting. The perfect shoe for girls, tweens, teens, and ladies.

I love flats. They are comfy shoes that add a touch of class to any oufit.
nope they're still fashionable! plus, they're comfy and cute :)

my red satin ballet flats from urban outfitters are one of my favourite pairs of shoes
no they are not out of style but i don't like them, you shouldn't wear them unless you are too tall
i think theyre really cute and add a little style to your outfit! my favorite flats were these like silver juicy couture%26lt;3 ones, but they totally dont sell them anymore
they are still fashionable and so comfortable
Flats will never go out of style. They are the perfect shoe! you can dress them up or down and they are comfortable. I also love them because I am tall and I like to wear nice cute shoes that don't add any extra height!
Flats are fabulas and still in of course, they can be a complete pain though when it rains, because then they get dirty and discoloured.
Out?! no not at all!

they add to your outfit, comfortable and could be very chic!!
I think they ar rreally cute! I have these really cute black ones. But I usualy wear Converses, they are really popular here! ^_^
I think thay look fantastic and cute.
flats are very cute when they are paired with the right types of clothing.
i luv ballet flats, i wear them all the time-with a pretty girly top, geargus knee lenght skirt and ballet flats is soo pretty together...
personally, i don't like flats... but if you are tall, and doesn't want to look very tall, then it's recommended...

Hi, what colour should normal ballet shoes be?

i bought some the other day but i am worried about whther they are right or not. They are a sort of peachey/pinky colour but they do not have ribbons are they the right ones?

Hi, what colour should normal ballet shoes be?the grand theater

Yeah, that sounds about right. At my studio, the dress code for ballet is a black bodysuit-any style, ballet pink tights-mondor 310, and pink ballet slippers or pointe shoes(as requested only). So, what you have sounds around the right lines. Just make sure that it matches with your studio's dress code and you'll be fine.

Good luck, and happy dancing!

Hi, what colour should normal ballet shoes be?soap opera opera theater

If they stay on you're feet while you dance there good. As for the color they should be pink, peach or any similar color
For a performance, the shoes should go with the costume and theme. Bright pink shoes, for instance would not do for a performer who represents a great, white, swan.

But for practice, it does not matter what color shoes, unless the school has a dress code for practice wear.
well, most of the time its pink and kind of peachy like the 1 u described but if the person has like turquise dress da shoes probly dont go with it!

but for normal just free dancing it dosnt relly mater!

GOOD LUCK!
Normal ballet shoes shouldn't have the ribbons, that is for pointe class. And the peachypink is the normal color so it sounds good.
You won't need to sew ribbons unless you have pointe shoes. Traditionally, women wear pink slippers, which are more of a peachy colour, so you're good.
pink, peachy color unless its required to be a different color at your studio
If they are for class, it would depend on the instructors preference. They sound like they would be fine for a basic class.

Can I go on in ballet even with too high arches?

My instructor says my arches are very high and my foot tends to go over. At first she was always saying I had great feet and she would get me to point my toes and show the other students as an example. She still says I have an amazing point but apparently my arch is too high and it makes my ankles weak when I try to go up onto my toes. My demi is great but en pointe sucks because my feet always go over. How can I lower my arch is it possible? Or is this the end of my dance dreams?!! I am so upset I have been crying.

Can I go on in ballet even with too high arches?concerts

OMG! Don't cry! It doesn't matter if you have high arches... personally I think high arches are gorgeous en pointe BECAUSE you go over. Take Alexandra Ferri for example! She is practically on the knuckles of her toes when she used to dance. People always say that you need the perfect feet to do pointe or ballet. But, look at people with flat feet they can do pointe even though its more challenging...but they can do it! Just be proud of your feet and remember: at least youll have the best turnout in your class!

Can I go on in ballet even with too high arches?headache opera theater

You may want to try different shoes! For going over too far, you can get a higher vamp, (that's the part over your toes). You will probably want a thicker shank, also. My friends Hannah and Jordan both have this problem, and they custom order a "double-shank" from a dance store. You can go into wherever you usually buy shoes and ask them if they have any or if they will order them for you. As for your ankles, try working with at TheraBand or writing the ABCs in the air with your feet. Don't get yourself down! If dance is something you truly love, you will find a way to get past this obstacle. You may want to ask your dance instructor for advice, she may have some other suggestions for you!

Good luck, and keep dancing!!! =]
Just look at any video of Alessandra Ferri and you will see that you can still be an amazing dancer with extremely high arches. You just have to work harder on strength and not going way over your shoe than others.

What is the relation of ballet and emotion?

Ballet, like any form of art, is telling a story through dance. If you're paying attention to the story line, it invokes emotion just like watching a compelling movie.

What is the relation of ballet and emotion?playhouse

Ballet tells a story. Lyrical can get very emotional. however the music makes you feel...dance it. If its an upbeat song go wild! If its slow and strong and emotional...be the music!

What is the relation of ballet and emotion?plays opera theater

ballet is a way of expressing emotion through dance. music and choreography is vital. also, theatrics are always a good quality to have as a ballet dancer. when the music speeds up, you might jump and spin, as though you are happy, if it slows down, or gets more meloncholy the dancer may exagerate their movements and look more depressed or sad. hope that helps =)
