I prefer making your own costumes to buying. It is a little intimidating when you aren't experienced, but it is actually simple and fun. I've never taken too long just to make the skirt, it should only be within hours.

You'll need several kinds of scissors depending on how you are designing your skirt. Regular scissors, fabric scissors, seam rippers, and if you want it (I always use it) embroidery scissors. The more expensive the thread are, generally the better to work with. You'll also need an endless supply of pins and needles. Ask a person working in the store to help you find more things you will need. You'll need more or less depending on if you use a machine or it is all by hand.

Parts of the body you need to measure before you start any sewing and cutting are the waist, lower and upper hip and thigh and your stride.

This website really helped me a couple years ago when I made my first tutu. It has very in depth instructions and precise details on cuts and trims.

Good luck with your sewing!

You can get the tulle and a pattern at your local fabric shop.

I used to suck at sewing, but practice makes perfect! You may need to settle for an inexpensive one that you don't care for so much until you perfect your sewing, but after that, you may get girls asking you to make their tutus.
i guess get a pattern.

what is your price range? tutu's are usu. expensive. check out discountdance.com and other sites like it. also check ebay!
