find out if the leap needs to be done throudh develope or not. I'm assuming you want to make a dance TEAM which usually uses it through develope. That said. it usually starts with a chasses, starting with the foot you plan to leap woth. A chasses is like a fast step ball change, a gallop almost, right left right, then a step on the left leg. the leap is then done on the right side (usually, most choreogprahpy is geared toward the right handed dancer). the leg comes up through develop, out in front, and you jump off the back le. it ehelps to think of sliding a split out on a table top. it sounds crazy, but ti works!

Ok, a basic leap is just like how it sounds, it's like leaping over something. Except for a dancer it's more like a split in the air. You can chasse into it, which is usually where you put out your right leg, and hop replacing your right leg with your left and stepping back onto your right... Then step onto your left foot and kick up your right and push your left behind you in a split. Concentrate on doing a split in the air and covering as much ground as you can. Keep both legs straight at all times. Also make sure you land in plie so you don't hurt your knees or roll your ankles.

Watch this for a good example of what it looks like. Keep in mind this is a ballerina and it won't have to look exactly like this for a dance team.
